My first course in the Master's of Health Studies program from Athabasca University named "Critical Foundations in Health Disciplines", has paved the pathway for me towards acquiring new techniques and skills. It has gradually trained me to try things outside my comfort zone such as enhancing my digital skills, using online resources/applications and minimizing the use of sticky notes or paper in my everyday life. The assignments in the course are well created with an emphasis on sharing learning resources, critiquing your classmates work and improving yours through constructive feedback provided by classmates and the professor. This valuable course has given me an awareness of the numerous curation tools one can use to accumulate useful links and resources. It has also trained me to create an ePortfolio to showcase my professional accomplishments. Creating an ePortfolio for someone who is not in the field of information technology or someone who does not possess a computer background can seem tedious. However, the steps taken to break down the assignment towards the final completion step of creating an ePortfolio has been invaluable. The interaction with classmates from diverse healthcare backgrounds within the course also enhances the knowledge of their professional practices and policies. It aids one to appreciate the differences and similarities in the healthcare professions and how they are connected towards one common goal which is the effective delivery of healthcare. Most importantly, the support readily available online in this course from the professor and classmates makes the pathway of this course easier for each student.

I have so far just begun the course and the content keeps me interested while the assignments enhance my underlying skills as a professional. I can’t wait to explore the course more and learn in the upcoming days about healthcare issues, policies, procedures and the possible reformations that can be brought in the Canadian healthcare system.
